In the Garden on January 28th

 the clematis trees are in bloom fairly early this year.  Now they are covered with buds and the first blooms are opening.

 The first crocuses were up at the end of January.  Now the yellow ones are open in the crocus field.

 This is a new cyclamen that I planted in the front little rockery.  It is good to see it open.  There a couple of blooms on the cyclamen at the back by the old sidewalk.

 The daffodils have been in buds for the past few weeks.  They should soon be opening.  Especially after a nice sunny warm day like today.  I cannot get out to garden, as I still have a nasty cold.

This is a new light blue polyanthus that I bought at Mattick's Farm nursery.  I really should get it transplanted as it has roots growing out of the bottom of its pot.  Also have a nice little ice plant from them that needs to go into the little rockery at the back, too. 

I plan to take out the overgrown blue spruce that borders the pond and replace it with the miniature pine tree that is now in  the little rockery.  This should free up more space for the polyanthus/primula collection. 

More orchids in January

 More of the Cattleya Intermedia.  This orchid had one blossom for its first time blooming at my house.  The bloom lasted only a couple of weeks.  I do seem to have better luck with the species.  Although my hybrid Pixie does very well.

 SL Psyche Orchid.  Pretty little flowers and a regular blooming plant.  The blooms do not last very long, either.  The white phalenopsis shown last post has been in bloom for a very long time.. probably more than a month.

 This photo of the roses at the front door is from Dec. 14, 2015.  The plant still has a couple of blooms showing.  It is time to prune the roses, though.  As soon as I am over my nasty cold I will get out there and do more clean up.

I cleaned up the photo a bit, changed it to 300 dpi and downsized it a bit so it would fit onto my 8 x 10 printing paper.  It printed out very nicely.  The matting I used needs to be darker.  I hung it anyway.  I must get down to Opus and get s new matting. 

I had a walk around the garden and have a few photos of crocuses and snowdrops, to be added soon.

Orchids in January

 The lady slipper Philippenense Grace Ann X Nancy.  This one was not in bloom for very long, but is weirdly interesting.  In trying to tear off a dead leaf I broke off the part of the plant that I believe was going to bloom next.  I stuck the broken part back into the pot.  It seems to be surviving.  Hope it sets its own roots.

I have otherwise been busy learning some new things on my computer.  I have added Google Analytics to my web page.  The Guestbook I had on my page shut down their guestbooks due to the scammers causing them endless work and bother.  So, I found a new Guestbook to use.  I now have just a link to the guestbook.  It is easy to find and use.  I do need to approve the guestbook comments before they are entered.  I have created yet another series of page for the Garden Journal excerpts and have finished the first year; 2012 and am half finished 2013.  These text pages are taken from my garden journal that I started keeping on my computer in 2012.  There will eventually be photo albums of these changes to the garden over the years.  I have a licensed copy of JAlbum to make photo albums.  I have hosting space on JAlbum for the albums, that I will be embedding in my web pages.  These photo albums can have different skins.  Perhaps one day I will learn how to add them to my page without over-writing any thing I have done.  Maybe my techie will show me how. 
A few weeks ago, I pulled the iris pots out of the pond and thinned them out, and put them back in the pond.  They should bloom better in a year or two, hopefully.  I repaired the waterfall and the edge of the pond.  It will look better when the edging plants grow and spread along the edge.  I will have to keep after the bluebells to get rid of them.  Chemical does not work on them, so they will need to be dug out, and any flowers cut off so that they do not produce more plants.
