Swift Current, Sask., Campground

July 31st - we finished off this day in the Swift Current, Sask., Trail Campsite. A nice spot with views over the hills. We had our previously prepared rice/sausage caserole, wine and Swiss emental cheese. This is our last night in Saskatchewan. I regret the lack of lightning photos. I just did not seem to get the opportunity. I am pretty happy with all the prairie photos, though. After eating, I we went out for a while and caught the sunset light. There were bugs, this time, so I did not spend too much time out there.

Today at home I spent a bit of time on the new site, and on house work. Apparently we had rain with wind, thunder and lightning. I slept through it all. Tonite we went to The Greek Days festival at the church next to the swimming pool. The food was pretty good and there was folk dancing. I have a movie that I shall add to my youtube account and eventually post on my video spot at the bottom of the page.

The land of the living skies

I have my camera set to take the wide format. This is the last photo before we find our campsite for the nite at Swift Current.
Sodium Sulfate being mined at Chaplin, Sask.
More of the mineral used in industry.

I could have cropped out the cows but I rather like the whimsical aspect of them sitting at the top of the frame.

On July 31 we drove from Wadena to our campsite at Swift Current, Sask. The rolling hills in the primarily ranching area around Swift Current are very picturesque. As you can see quite a few of my photos are done while in a moving vehicle. I don't mind the blur, it seems to add a 'impressionistic' quality to the photos that hold grasses moving in the wind, even if the photos were taken with camera on tripod. I like the motion.

Land of the Living Skies #2

Golden prairie - one of my favourites.
Posts and bales.
There seems to be more hawks around on the prairies now. This is the closest I got to one though.
Prairie grass and black eyed susan
The ferris wheel. Too bad about the tree screening it.
The valley.. not sure which river or creek or canal this might be.

July 31st was a good day for photos. We made photo stops for coffee breaks. We are on our way home now, so are not touring too far off the highway.

At home was another lovely day. I cleaned up the filter on the pond pump, but did not get the large filter out of the pond yet. Topped up the pond and watered around a bit. We have been eating plums with mango frozen yogurt. As usual, I think, more plums have fallen to the ground than we have been able to use. There is no rumpot this year. Perhaps next year I should try just plums and blackberries in a rum pot.
