Green Festival at Glendale Gardens

On Sunday I spent a few hours at Glendale Gardens, in the afternoon.  Its was very hot with bright sun, so the time for photography was less than opportune.   The Green Festival was on, with a few kiosks to advertise alternate energy, and local foods, hemp clothing, and numerous other current eco friendly things.  I talked to a people at a booth with pictures of our western painted turtles and they said I might find some at Beaver Lake.  So, today, we will go out there in the camper van for lunch and to search for turtles.  I must look at the Victoria Daily blog ... I think he found some of these turtles and posted to his blog a few weeks ago.
Yesterday, I spent a few hours watering the garden by hand and looking over the plants.  When I was out at Glendale Gardens I was taking pictures and observing some of the paths, especially the woodland ones.  In my woodland the tall plants are looking pretty good...wild, but I like them.  The lace cap hydrangea  looks really good after it got a bit of water.  There are weeds, but not too bad.  The corsican mint is filling in beautifully around the round stepping stones in the back.  I shall need more delephiniums and maybe a veronica or two.  The lavatera is full of blooms.

Victoria Harbour Ferry

The Victoria Harbour Ferry. Another photo from June last year. It is a real treat to go for a ride on one of these little ferries. They are surprisingly stable.
The Tea Ceremony and the Japanese maple tree phiotos are from June 21, 2008 when the Takata Japanese Gardens were opened at Glendale Gardens. I have also added one of the videos I took at that time, to the bottom of this blog.

Japanese Maple

I uploaded the video of the Japanese drummers to my youtube today. I spent far too much time looking for a video editor and trying to make one go. My windows movie maker has stopped working. Along with numerous other things Windows related. Sure wish I could run Linux. I am not getting windows 7 because that would mean I would need a whole new computer. On days like this, I think I might just go back to reading books and gardening. But I did get some of my own stuff done today, so I guess that is a plus. The car stuff on my web page has the sub page finished with a start on the list of car events... in three parts. I am quite happy with how that is turning out. My web page is very old and no one goes there. I am glad of that, as it is more for my own records and enjoyment, than anything.

Yesterday I went for a phlobotomy and was out of there in record time. Later in the evening we went to the Dunlop house with Jim and Sheila to enjoy a scrumptious wine paired seafood dinner.

Inside the Tulip macro

This is a macro of the inside of the tulip before I got pollen on the lens. I shot this yesterday when we were out at The Horticultural Center of the Pacific; now Glendale Gardens. Its a botanical garden and training center for Master Gardeners. The place is really looking lovely. I have not been out there for quite some time. I must go again in the summer. The rhodos are not in full bloom yet. The Japanese Garden is interesting. I find there are too many 'things' in it though. The bridges and the water are excellent.

I finished my income tax forms today and they are ready to file. Since I get a refund I should send them off right away.

I tweaked a few photos of the soccer and all for Pam and sent them off this morning. Even earlier this morning I was looking out the front window and saw the little squirrel run across the front deck with a mouth full of fuzz. He ran up the tree, hopped onto the roof from the tree, ran across the roof to the wire to the pole in the front. Upon reaching the pole she disappeared into the Virginia creeper. I guess she felt safer up on the roof and wire than on the ground. I did not get a photo of her doing this. She is just too fast.
