Mid November in my garden
View under the deck to record some of the work that needs to be done. We were away a lot of the hot, dry summer so the attention to watering under the deck was non-existent. The little bush has dried up and died and so there will need to be something new planted in this area. Something for dry shade. I would like it to be evergreen. The little boxwood seems to be doing ok just under the edge of the deck. This area is shaded by the climatis that climbs up to the deck.
The blue leaves are of the newly transplanted Rhodo Oreotrephes. It will have pink blossoms and eventually grow to 10 feet tall and wide. So, it will need some pruning to shape it nicely to fit in its spot between the steps up to the back deck and the wall of the house. The sea horse dominates the scene at the moment. There is a 2.5 foot oak tree growing next to the house that needs removal. Just behind the new rhodo is the camillia that we cut down to a few inches tall. The camillia's pink blossoms would turn brown at the least bit of rain on them. This area needs peat moss and rhodo food added.
The last 3 pots of the orange trees are going to be left out this winter. They are never going to bloom and they have become a messy business to take them into the house in the winter. The pots will be rededicated to perennials. I have a big gentian in the little rockery that is going to be moved to a pink pot. There is another gentian from last VRAGS show and sale that waits on the deck for a place. Perhaps the pink pots will become the gentian collection.
Overview of some of the back garden rooms. As of now the leaves have fallen and are raked up. The apples are harvested. The moss garden and the little rockery need to be cleaned up. The gentian needs to be taken out of the little rockery with a view to replacing it with something smaller.
There have been huge mushrooms growing in the strip between our driveway and the neighbors. The mushrooms are by the cedar hedge.
Wonderful Autumn colors of the sweet gum tree. Nearly all of this glorious color is gone and spread around the garden as mulch. I have one more raking of leaves to be done to clean up the front garden.
An overview of the front garden from the street, showing the two rectangle perennial beds on each side of the cedar hedge, with the spirea bush, a french lavender and other perennials in front these beds. Not in the view is the strip of grass along in front of perennial bed. The crocus field is in this front grass area. I planted 150 more crocus bulbs in the crocus field, and gave all the bulbs bone meal. All these perennials and shrubs are in the boulevard garden that is actually on Saanich property.
We were up to Campbell River for Rosemary's funeral services. The church was packed. It was a lovely service to celebrate her life and rest in peace. We will all miss her.
